Dandenong is a satellite city and major industrial hub located about 36 kilometres south-east of the CBD, and accessed either by the Princes Highway or Monash Freeway. The Eastlink Freeway passes through Dandenong on its way from Ringwood to Frankston, making it one of the most accessible suburbs in the south-eastern suburbs. Dandenong’s central activity centre stretches from the Dandenong train station on Foster Road, over Princes Highway to the Dandenong Plaza shopping centre. The City of Greater Dandenong is investing tens of millions into Dandenong over the next 20 years, after it was isolated as a major activity centre in the State Government’s controversial Melbourne 2030 policy. The suburb of Dandenong also includes Dandenong North, widely regarded as the pocket north of Heatherton Road.
